The main aim of these institutes is to inculcate in the minds of young students the art of research and experiment which are essential parts of every branch of study. Besides, these institutes also undertake major research projects in a wide range of topics to contribute towards the betterment of humanity.

The first institute to emerge out of the National Institute of Technology was the IE School of Engineering. The school provides holistic education to engineering aspirants through its four wings namely Building Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. After graduating from IE School of Engineering, the students can look forward to various career opportunities in the fields of nanotechnology, pharmaceutical, energy, biomedical, and others. There are various fee structures available at the National Institute of Technology. Some of the common courses offered at the Engineering faculty of the Institute are AutoCAD, CAD-CAM, CHAS, CHMS, CMMS, ECP, FEM, GE Analysis, PHYS, Solid State, Mechanics, and Electricity.

The National Institute of Technology has five senates which are the governing body, council, administration, research wing, and student affairs. A trustee is a chief officer appointed by the president with consultative power and his duties are to ensure that the policies of the institute are executed. As the administrative head of the institute, the senates are responsible for the running of the institutes smoothly. The chief executive officer and the managers of the organization have the responsibility of ensuring that the institute is executing its policies properly.

Padma Shri, former governor of Madhya Pradesh and later prime minister of India was a student of the engineering department of the National Institute of Technology. He was also a member of the Academy of Indian names and he holds the credited post of vice president in the Engineering branch of the university. Therefore, you do not have to be a bachelor in engineering to get in touch with the latest technology India has to offer. Rather you can study engineering from any of the Engineering colleges of India like IIT Delhi or IIT Mumbai or any of the Engineering colleges in other states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, or Uttarakhand.
