Are you tired of walking around shops, glancing at price tags and trying on clothes? If you hate clothes shopping, Thread, a London startup that provides customers an online stylist for free is the best option for you.

Launched in 2012, the company gives a personal stylist for every buyer. It leverages a unique combination of intelligent algorithms and human stylists to provide personalised product picks at scale.

Thread work with the best elements of human stylists such as your taste and ability to look at your photo and know what suit you. With that information, Thread looks through millions of items and provides what most fit you.

Thread targets style-conscious yet shopping-averse and time-pressed people.  When asked about the mission of Thread, O’Neill said: “Most guys want to look smart, but hate the hassle involved. We strive to simplify the whole experience by making it easy to dress well.”

Over the last two years, the company has grown its customer’s base from about 10,000 people to over 200,000.

To be specific, the company matches customers to a human stylist.  The stylists studies data gathered through a quick online quiz and recommends silhouettes that may suit the customers. Thread’s algorithms then choose available garments that match guidelines of the stylist at a price point stated by the customer, who can buy items directly through the site. Consequently, Thread makes shopping significantly easier, effective, and even fun.

Instead of holding stock, the company works with affiliated retailers including Liberty, Urban Outfitters, and Harvey Nichols, as well as brands such as Jigsaw, Oliver Spencer, Oliver, Folk, Sunspel, and Richard James. By placing a regular bulk order on behalf of their customers, the company is able to buy clothes at a discounted rate.

Notable previous investors n Thread includes Y Combinator, Spotify investor Shakil Khan, Lovefilm founder William Reeve, Google Ventures partner Tom Hulme, and Passion Capital partner Eileen Burbidge and, Bebo founder Michael Birch.

The Thread is not a weekly or monthly subscription service. Instead, it enables users to purchase clothes from various retailers via the Thread site.  To use the company services, you will be required to create an account on Thread. Thereafter, you will be given a stylist to help you. The company boasts of eight full-time stylists.

On the Thread site, there is a section where you list the items you already have. That allows your stylist to come up with outfit ideas using what you already have.  Every time you log onto the site, you will see what your stylist has suggested for you.

You can also decide to tell your stylist what exactly you want. For instance, if you ask for a nice winter coat, your stylist will come up with some great suggestion. When you make an order, the clothes arrive in a big box, accompanied by a gift and a card.

Everything you order will fit you. But if there is a problem, the site makes it easy for you to return the items. You just need to tick off what you’re returning.
