The Journey to Entrepreneurship

Rachel Cossar, Virtual Sapiens founder and CEO, was once a professional ballerina. When her career was cut short due to an unfortunate, career-altering injury, however, Cossar needed to pivot. Taking with her the knowledge and skills of her previous occupation, the founder landed a job in the fundraising department at Harvard University. In her new role, she took note of the necessity of performance psychology in the workplace, specifically when being required to perform under immense pressure.

As she said during her interview with Startup Savants, “really understanding the power of our physicality as humans when it comes to communicating a very complex message. You can communicate all of the emotional nuance from the way that you move your body and the way that you use your voice.”

Leveraging her expertise and a key sense of a lacking in the industry, Cossar launched Virtual Sapiens, an AI startup that helps salespeople and beyond communicate more effectively by using their innovative technology to optimize their body language.

As Cossar says during her interview, “For entrepreneurs, if you think about what you’re trying to do at the core, at the outset, and then as you continue with your business, you’re trying to influence people into seeing this new world of what’s possible.” she explains, “And if you’re not able to communicate that, then it’s just such a shame because it means you’re either leaving potential on the table or you’re making your likelihood of success smaller than it would be if you were able to land that communication of that message every time.”
