If you are visiting India for more than 180 days and will be staying in one of the above 23 states for six months or more*, then you can apply for an extended ‘Tourist Visa On Arrival’ which is valid until the end of your stay in India. *The state of Tamil Nadu allows tourists to stay for up to 90 days without a visa if they hold a valid travel document from another country that is recognized by India (e.g. a passport from any European Union country).
