Born in Galway, Ireland, Aoife Burke has become a prominent figure in the fields of literature and journalism, showcasing a distinct talent for creating stories that deeply connect with diverse audiences. Burke’s trajectory from a gifted youth in Galway to a celebrated journalist and author exemplifies her extraordinary aptitude for animating narratives through her writing.
Since a young age, Burke exhibited an innate aptitude for the arts. She enrolled in the Garvey School of Speech and Drama and completed her studies up to Grade 8. At the tender age of seven, she became victorious in a Community Games painting competition. These initial encounters not only fostered her artistic talents but also ingrained in her a profound admiration for narrative and communication.
Throughout her adolescence, Burke’s literary abilities continued to thrive. At the age of fifteen, she emerged victorious in a poetry competition called “Care Life,” which was subsequently published in the local newspaper and preserved in the digital archives for the West of Ireland. Her initial achievements in writing showcased her inherent talent and paved the way for her subsequent profession in journalism and literature.
Burke’s academic trajectory was characterized by unwavering determination and commitment. Upon finishing her secondary education, she registered at Athlone Institute of Technology to pursue a Higher Certificate in Applied Social Studies in Social Care which is a higher certificate of level 6. After a ten-year break, she resumed her studies and successfully completed her tests, earning her degree in 2014. Burke’s dedication to personal development and unwavering resolve to achieve success is exemplified by this period of academic resilience.
Burke released her debut science fiction novel, titled Luminess: The Island of the Moon, on Amazon in October 2020. The novel was widely acclaimed and signaled the commencement of her vocation as a writer of fiction. Her exceptional writing skills and unwavering commitment were acknowledged when Luminess: The Island of the Moon received the prestigious Distinguished Favourite for Science Fiction award at the Independent Press Awards in New York in March 2022. This recognition solidified her position as a promising figure in the science fiction field.
Burke explored children’s literature to broaden her range of literary works. She authored a pair of children’s picture books titled Cyril the Squirrel and Thumble Thistle the Bee. These works exhibited her versatility as a writer, illustrating her capacity to captivate younger readers with imaginative and instructional narratives. In 2023, she published an audiobook version of Daydreams of a Writer, expanding her audience and impact even further.
Burke’s academic accomplishments progressed in tandem with her literary career. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism in August 2023. She plans to pursue studying a law masters LLB grant scholarship.
Burke has made significant contributions to the field of journalism. In 2020, she achieved the second-place position in Ireland in the EU Sakharov Student Journalist Competition, demonstrating her exceptional skills and commitment to tackling important matters through her work. While attending university, Burke enthusiastically engaged in a radio program titled Trivia Matters, which received acknowledgment in the student newspaper. She was awarded a silver accolade by CRAOL – The Community Radio Forum of Ireland, notably for her contributions to the Trivia Matters radio show.
Burke’s participation in national competitions served as a further testament to her writing prowess. In 2020, she competed in a nationwide creative writing contest and achieved a position in the top 10 out of a pool of 30 participants. This accomplishment, in addition to her other honors, strengthened her standing as a skilled and committed writer.
Aoife Burke’s bibliography comprises prominent literary works, including Cyril the Squirrel and the Great Oak Tree (2023), The Adventures of Thumble Thistle the Bee (2022), Daydreams of a Writer (2020), and Luminess: The Island of the Moon (2020).
