How Bad Can Technology Be?

While you are not exactly wrong in your assumption that modern technology can definitely be detrimental to mental health, only 5% of people believe this. While the advantages certainly exist, there are also negative effects. If you do too, then it is time for you to take a step back and look at the world around you and make some changes that will not only benefit your mental state but also help to keep you mentally healthy.

One of the most obvious and most damaging effects of technology is the fact that it makes us become more sociable, as we are bombarded with tons of information during the day. This means that we are always on the go. However, the problem with this is that many of us become addicted to this continuous flow of information and end up spending far too much time without actually sleeping. This is definitely going to affect your mental health in a big way and could lead you to become addicted to various types of media, such as video games and the internet.

It is very clear that both physical activities and mental activities are closely linked, and if one decreases, the other automatically becomes less active. For example, if you play a lot of computer games, you will find that you actually burn a lot of calories, even when you are not physically active at all. However, if you do not play many computer games and instead spend most of your time watching television programs, you will find that the amount of time spent actually engaging in physical activities is much less.

Even though the internet was introduced to help us stay connected, it has also been used to bring about negative effects. In particular, the introduction of mobile phones has made communication very easy and convenient, but it has also presented a serious problem. Basically, because these devices do not have a back panel, they tend to fall down more often than they slide. Thus, instead of using them for making calls, they are being used for watching TV shows and videos, which can result in several physical injuries each year that could have been avoided.

Furthermore, another one of the negative effects of technology use is the reduction of attention span. In fact, most of the time, smartphone users do not even realize that they are not using their phones. As a result, they waste a lot of time looking up information on the phone and socializing with friends, and as a result, they rarely get the chance to finish reading a book or a newspaper.

In conclusion, it can be said that most of the negative effects of technology are not really caused by the gadgets themselves, but by how people use them. Therefore, it might be a good idea to stop using your smartphone or other devices at least for a few days, and only use them when necessary. This will help you to improve your focus, as well as the way that you look at the world. Note that this is a permanent change, and will not just be effective in the aspect of your looks, but also in the aspect of your mental health and your productivity. After all, what good is a bad body if you don’t feel good about yourself?
