Skylo has announced a significant expansion of its direct-to-device satellite network, enabling seamless global connectivity for over a billion devices. This innovative network allows for automatic switching between satellite and cellular networks, effectively eliminating coverage gaps without the need for additional hardware. The service is designed to support a wide range of devices, including smartphones, wearables, vehicles, and Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

Key Takeaways

  • Skylo’s network provides seamless connectivity for over a billion devices.
  • Automatic switching between satellite and cellular networks eliminates coverage gaps.
  • The service supports various devices, including smartphones and IoT systems.

  • Satellite SMS offers a reliable communication channel for emergencies and daily use.

A recent survey highlighted the growing demand for improved connectivity, revealing that 76% of American consumers feel frustrated or unsafe due to inadequate cellular coverage. The introduction of satellite SMS has emerged as a crucial solution, ensuring a consistent communication channel for both emergency situations and everyday use. Skylo’s technology is particularly beneficial for the 59% of users who frequently encounter weak signals, providing them with a dependable link during critical moments.

While many similar services are typically associated with remote areas, Skylo’s network offers a continuous overlay even in urban settings or at the edges of cellular networks. Utilizing Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) spectrum, the network aligns with existing global regulatory frameworks, preserving essential carrier spectrum for satellite signals.

Parthsarthi Trivedi, Skylo’s Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, emphasized the technology’s potential, stating, "2025 is the year for satellite-connected devices at a global scale. Consumers and businesses will begin to experience seamless connectivity in their daily lives, no matter where they go. We are paving the way for the entire industry to embrace enhanced connectivity in their products and services."

Skylo’s network has already managed millions of satellite-based messages and is prepared to scale up to support billions of devices within the fully licensed satellite spectrum. This expansion is set to revolutionize connectivity across various sectors.

In related developments, Skylo has formed partnerships with companies such as Grinn, KYOCERA AVX, and Sony Altair. These collaborations have facilitated the design of satellite-based reference solutions utilizing NB-NTN technology, broadening the scope of potential applications in logistics, agriculture, and emergency services.

As Skylo continues to innovate and expand its satellite network, the future of global connectivity looks promising, paving the way for a more connected world.
