The Top 6 iPhones of All Time
The iPhone stands out as a groundbreaking piece of technology that has left an impact. Can you recall the era of phones before the iPhone’s debut? The wireless application protocol (WAP) browsers were prevalent phone conversations took precedence over texting and cameras, on cell phones were a few megapixels. While smartphones like BlackBerry and Palm Treo existed back then they catered more to business needs than use.
However, when Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in 2007 it marked a shift. Jobs presented the iPhone as an all-in-one device; “It’s a phone it’s a camera it’s an iPod.” Despite scepticism from figures, like Steve Ballmer who doubted its success the iPhone gained popularity. Remains one of the leading smartphones today. Some might even argue that Android, as we know it today, might not have emerged if not for the pioneering work of the iPhone.
Initially planned for release in 2013 Apple surprised consumers by unveiling both the iPhone 5c alongside the iPhone 5s in a simultaneous launch.
Since then we’ve seen, up to five iPhone models released each year. In the standout year of 2020, we witnessed the launch of the iPhone SE 2 the 12 mini, the 12 the 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max.
6) iPhone 4 (2010)
The iPhone 4 revolutionized not compared to its predecessors but within the mobile phone industry. Its slim design with a glass back and metal antenna set a fresh standard for beauty. The introduction of the Retina display enhanced users’ visual experience.
However, this innovative design also brought along a problem; issues with the antenna’s performance when held in a manner sparking controversy known as “Antennagate.” Apple’s response to this dilemma by providing Bumper cases marked both a moment of support and disappointment for a phone that was otherwise considered one of the best in the market.
5) iPhone 13 Pro Max (2021)
For those who seek nothing of excellence in their devices look no further than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. This high-end device features the most impressive screen, a top-notch camera setup, lasting battery life, strong speakers and plenty of processing power making it a standout choice, in Apple’s product range. However, it’s important to mention that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is substantial in size comes with a price tag and feels heavy. It doesn’t have USB C or Touch ID and its edges tend to attract smudges. Moreover, many of the improvements that make it stand out can also be found in the iPhone 13 Pro.
4) iPhone 15 Pro/ Pro Max (2023)
When comparing the Pro versions of iPhones in the iPhone 15 series the differences are more noticeable. The Pro models come with a titanium body that effectively manages weight and makes strides in camera technology with a lens (3x for the 15 Pro and 5x for the 15 Pro Max). The image quality for both photos and videos is exceptional this year surpassing expectations.
The shift from Lightning to USB C was certainly significant; however, this year’s remarkable upgrade is the action button. Being able to use this button as a camera shutter button to switch, between Focus modes or launch apps has transformed how we interact with our iPhones overnight.
The latest Pro iPhone stands out for its performance of running high-quality games typically found on gaming consoles. It currently holds a position, in this ranking – only time will reveal if its impact will match that of its predecessors.
3) iPhone X (2017)
Although the iPhone X, Apple’s reimagining of its device has been removed from the lineup it continues to impress us. By ditching the home button and Touch ID sensor the iPhone X introduced an OLED display without borders – despite the controversial notch – along with intuitive navigational changes that quickly became second nature. Gestures like swiping up to go back to the home screen or swiping sideways on the bottom bar to switch between apps felt smooth and natural. Exclusive features such as Face ID on the iPhone X proved effective while Animoji added a fun touch.
On the outside it exuded sophistication; glass panels on both sides a stainless steel frame and Apple’s signature attention to detail and polish in design. The $999/£999 price tag may have deterred some buyers due, to its steepness. Did little to diminish our admiration.
However, there were flaws found in the design of the iPhone X up, to now.
2) iPhone (2007)
The original iPhone marked a breakthrough that introduced touch devices ultimately paving the way for the sale of billions of smartphones and tablets globally. The importance of the iPhone cannot be overstated. Without it, today’s phone landscape would have looked significantly different. While it’s possible that another company could have eventually developed a phone it’s unlikely that it would have matched Apple’s exceptional quality right from the beginning.
Ranking this phone was a task due to its status. Despite deserving a position on the list after consideration of all factors involved we had to give recognition to another device.
1) iPhone 5 (2012)
The iPhone 5 was the iPhone that truly impressed us upon its release showcasing Apple’s peak performance in the smartphone market before the debut of the iPhone X. It featured a design that refined the aesthetics of the iPhone 4 while expanding the display to widescreen dimensions, with a 4-inch size.
The introduction of the iPhone 5 was a moment, for Apple as it finally incorporated LTE support enhancing users’ experience with faster network speeds to enjoy features like the Retina display and a diverse selection of apps on the App Store. It successfully addressed complaints and felt like a well-rounded device.
Although iOS 6 seemed a bit outdated at that time. The launch of the Apple Maps app had its issues, but the overall quality of the iPhone 5 its improvements over models and the competitive landscape back then made it a standout choice.
