Types of Advertising
Advertisement is generally a public communication that uses an explicitly endorsed, non-profit message to advertise or promote a business, product, or concept. Advertisers of advertisement are usually large organizations wishing to market their goods and services. Advertisements are also sometimes published by businesses to coincide with trade events or to raise awareness about a company or products. Advertisements can also be used for political campaigning as they are a very cost-effective way to reach the masses. Many people feel that the power of advertisement should not be abused as it takes away from other free sources of publicity such as newspapers or television. However, like all forms of communication, advertising should be used with discretion and should be an honest means of presenting ideas or products so as not to violate the rights of others.
Advertising has come a long way from the conventional forms of mass communication, as it now includes online advertisements that can reach millions of people in a short period of time. The advent of digital advertising has revolutionized the way in which advertisements are presented and caused a huge surge in the number of advertisements as well as the kind of content being presented. Traditional advertising is now being challenged by digital advertising and the increasing popularity of the internet. In addition to these challenges, the changing consumer behavior and changing tastes of the target audience have all had a significant impact on the growth and profitability of advertising agencies.
Traditional advertising, in the form of print advertising, traditionally provides consumers with visual information about products and services offered by organizations. Print advertising is a cost-effective means of reaching the masses. Unlike digital advertising, the impact of traditional advertising cannot be undone by future actions. Print advertisements are normally placed in newspapers or magazines that reach the targeted audience on a regular basis. Advertisements in magazines are intended to capture the interest of the target audience on a longer basis. This is different from digital advertising which only has a short life span.
Print advertising helps to create brand awareness, increases the loyalty of existing customers, and helps to make new customers aware of products and services. Television advertisements are designed to attract a specific group of viewers, whereas radio advertisements reach a broader audience by inviting a wider audience to listen to the advertisement. The impact of print advertisements is immediate and therefore, they must be strategically planned and creatively executed in order to be effective. Print advertisements are normally more expensive than online advertisements. This is due to the time and resources taken to design the advertisement, as well as the distribution of the print media.
Internet advertising campaigns usually use a variety of media including text messages, email, videos, and social networking to reach many different audiences at the same time. These various media assist in driving a large volume of traffic to websites. These methods are very effective and affordable means of reaching a wide range of customers for many different purposes. This enables advertisers to develop a large and targeted subscriber base.
Online advertisement campaigns provide advertisers with a great opportunity to develop brand recognition, generate a huge subscriber base, and improve their profitability. Advertisements on the internet also allow for an immediate response, which is often crucial for online retailers. Unlike other forms of advertising, the success of an online campaign depends on the effectiveness of the message and the distribution of that message. Online advertisements must be carefully evaluated and must be effectively carried out in order to avoid ineffective distribution and to maximize their effectiveness.
