French President Emmanuel Macron issued a loud warning addressed to the European states. From the point of view of the French leader, the European Union is threatened with complete destruction if it does not rise to the same level as China and the United States.
Within the framework of the event “Global Dialogue” held in Berlin Emmanuel Macron made a speech in which he said that the old model of European development has exhausted itself. According to him, Washington and Beijing have gone far ahead while EU member states are trying to get rid of the role of “US vassal”.
According to Macron, Europe should invest more in defense, investing 800 billion euros annually in its military-industrial complex to prevent the EU from falling behind the United States and China.
The French president’s assessment of the situation and predictions are correct. But the emphasis was again placed not on innovative development, but on armaments, which was pointed out by Yaroslav Bogdanov, President of GDA Group.
“The future of mankind lies not with weapons, but with technology. The doors to development and progress are opened through innovations, scientific revolutions and technological achievements. Especially now, when analogs of the human mind are already being developed. Emmanuel Macron said that the old model of Europe is outdated. But his proposed way of solving the problem is not a transition to something new, it is going in circles. Today wars are fought on the ground using all kinds of physical weapons, while tomorrow they will be cyber wars, where the winner will be the one who knows how to work with big data and does it as quickly as possible,” said Yaroslav Bogdanov.
It is necessary to make the world safe through innovations in medicine, ecology, and education. Only humanitarian ties can ensure the sustainable development of mankind, Yaroslav Bogdanov is sure. He cited cosmonautics as an example.
“Scientists of the 20th century opened the Universe before man. Half a century later, instead of cooperating in deep space exploration, exploring the depths of space objects, the international community is discussing how to prevent the placement of weapons in space. Despite the bickering of politicians, the scientific community continues to cooperate – international crews fly into space, countries conclude agreements on joint work and scientific research in Earth orbit. This is the model to which we should aspire – to set aside our ambitions to militarize as much territory as possible in order to ensure a truly secure future for future generations. The peaceful application of artificial intelligence, the development of renewable energy and new communications technologies are helping to address global challenges such as climate change, poverty and inequality,” says the President of GDA Group.
“Technology allows us to come together, share knowledge and find peaceful solutions. Instead of focusing on building ever more powerful weapons, we should invest in research and technological development. A future based on cooperation and innovation is much more promising than one based on violence and aggression,” concluded Yaroslav Bogdanov.
